I believe Issachar Norton was a millwright by trade. I do not know when he arrived in Bennington, VT from his family home in Suffield, CT , but he was living in Bennington at the outbreak of the Revolution. After serving at the Battle of Bennington he later moved with his family to present day New Haven Mills, Vermont where he built and operated the mill complex. This area was originally known as Norton's Mills, according to the New Haven Historical Society. While there the local history records a number of family tragedies.
FROM THE VERMONT GAZETTE 1791
"May 9 - On the 25th ult. a child of Mr Issachar Norton drowned in the river." (This would be Roswell.)
FROM THE VERMONT GAZETTE 1793
"August 9 - On the 16th of July a son of Mr Issachar Norton of New Haven, about four years old, was knocked down by a large tree but miraculously escaped injury." (This is likely Eldad) "Mr Norton has resided in New Haven not quite three years during which the accidents that have befallen his children appear singular. His eldest son fell off the mill frame injuring his leg, a short time after, a younger son was drowned; a few months later a third son fell with his horse and now the fourth has escaped injury."
Around 1803 - 05 he and his family emigrated to Stanstead County, Quebec to homestead and became one of the first settlers of Barnston. His gravesite has never been found.
His date of death is from an obituary in the St Johnsbury, VT Farmer's Herald dated 7-7-1830. Thanks to NEKG-VT.com.
