Aviation Chief Radioman Frakes was living in Los Angeles, CA when he entered the service and was a crew member of the Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43).
On February 24, 1965, he was a crewman of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skywarrior (A-3B) over South Vietnam when his aircraft crashed over water. He parachuted into the ocean but became entangled in his parachute and drowned.
His remains were never recovered.
His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
