Fremont Marine dies in Vietnam

Fremont- Marine Lance Cpl. Barry Clinton Hiatt, 19, of Fremont, was killed Wednesday in Vietnam, his wife has learned.

Cpl. Hiatt who attended Tennyson High School in Hayward, was on patrol in Quang Nam province when a bomb exploded nearby, killing him and injuring several other members of the patrol.

He joined the Marines 13 months ago and went to Vietnam early in September. His wife, Dawn of 3520 Sutton Loop, had just received some formal pictures of her husband in his uniform the day she was notified of his death.

In addition to his wife, Cpl. Hiatt is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hiatt, 6363 Thomas Ave., Newark, and four brothers, Ron, who is with the U.S. Army; Harold Jr., Kenneth and Scott.
