BEN DEMASTERS, FORMER LIVERY OPERATOR, DIES
Joseph B. (Ben) DeMasters, 85, of Sweet, died Friday morning at an Emmett hospital. He was born Dec 29, 1886, near Hepner, Ore and came to Ola with his parents when he was six. In 1906 he moved to Emmett where he operated a livery bar. He married Nellie Badley on July 19, 1908 at Sweet. She died Oct 21, 1971. He moved to Sweet in 1912 where he since had lived. He was a rancher and operated the Sweet Service Station from 1948 to 1957. Survivors include two sons, Joe and Willard DeMasters both of Sweet; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Hartman, Tacoma, Wash, Mrs. Hayes (Katie) Elliott, Suquamish, Wash, and Mrs. Hugh (Nellie) Fulton, Riggins; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were conducted Saturday at the Sweet-Montour cemetery by the Rev L. D. Lock of the Sweet Assembly of God.
