Boxer Rebellion Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the United States Marine Corps as a Private in the China Relief Expedition during the Boxer Rebellion. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Peking, China, from July 21 to August 17, 1900. His citation reads "In the presence of the enemy during the action, Gaiennie distinguished himself by meritorious conduct." His Medal was issued on July 19, 1901.
