Pvt. John G. Montgomery was born on 19 Dec 1840 in Virginia. He was married to Sallie Carter in July 1865. Her nickname for him was "Diggins" They had 8 children, Marcus, Minnie, William Getty, Leone, John, Charles and Rube.
Sallie died 18 May 1923. She is buried beside John.

So we wish to say, "God Bless Ole Jeff Davis!" and rest in peace to "Diggins! Huzzah to a brave soldier!

Pvt. John Gibson Montgomery was proud to be one of "Fightin Joe Wheelers men"! When ever anything good happened John would say: "God Bless Ole Jeff Davis"

His Memorial was held 6 May 2000. Many family and friends participated from all over Oregon. Service was by Capt. F. M. Jackson Camp # 1778 and the Varina Howell Davis Chapter 2369
