– Charles Milton Shelby, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford from complications from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born July 24, 1933, in Ashland to Arthur and Hattie Mae Thompson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Benton County. He was retired from Cowin Equipment Co. Inc. in Birmingham, Ala.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ashland with Bro. Brad Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Janie Hutson and Jean Zorzoli, both of Ashland; two stepsons, Billy Davis of Eads, Tenn., and Bobby Davis of Albertville, Ala.; one sister, Evon Kelley (Charles) of Germantown, Tenn.; one brother, James T. Shelby (Juanette) of Memphis; two sisters-in-law Bernice Shelby and Nellye Pierce, both of Memphis; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter, Joan Helms; two brothers, Sammy Shelby and Leon Shelby; and two nephews, Tommy Shelby and Kenny Shelby.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Shelby Singleton, Dale Singleton, Bobby Shelby, Bobby Joe Crumpton, Tommy Cook and Jeff Huddleston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Maddox, Billy Shelby and Buster Samples.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, then from noon to service time Friday at the church.
