Lance Cpl. Donald Champlin, 28, died Monday, August 28, 2006, from wounds received while on patrol August 27, 2006 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Per Donald's request, graveside services will be at Onslow Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, N.C., under the direction of the U.S. Marine Corps. Donald chose a career in the Marine Corps a year ago. Donald was also an organ donor, wishing to help other people upon his death, as in life. Donald attended Morningside College in Sioux City Iowa from August 1996 to May of 1999 after graduating from Belle Chasse High School, LA. He attended Northwestern State University, obtained a Medical Technology degree from Louisiana State University, then worked at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center as a Medical Technician. Donald joined the Marines a year ago. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for his heroic actions in Iraq. He had served there for less than a month.
