Although the death certificate states that he is buried in Lone Pine cemetery, it is assumed that the obituary is correct. Pine Grove is the main cemetery which serves the Halsey area, whereas the nearest Lone Pine cemetery (Lane county) is some 60 miles away, serving mainly as a small family cemetery.
In 1870, he is living in Clatsop county, Oregon, working on a farm.
From 1874 - 1876, he served as the first postmaster of the community of Jewell, on the Nehalem River (Clatsop county, Oregon).
In 1876, he is listed among the settlers of the Nehalem Valley (Clatsop county, Oregon) in an newspaper article published in Astoria (5/23/1876).
In 1880, he is living in Clatsop county, Oregon, farming.
In 1900, he is living at Merlin, Oregon, farming.
In 1910, he is living at the Veterans Home in Port Orchard, Washington. Just prior to that, he was at the Veterans home at Orting, Washington. Their records indicate that he had been discharged from the Army on Nov. 2, 1865 at Ft. Vancouver, so he likely lied about his age in order to enlist.
He has not been located in the 1920 census, but that is about the time that he moved to Halsey, as indicated on his Death Certificate.
Note: His name is not in the current listing for the cemetery, but it is known that some of the burials are not in the current records.
