Josiah Dean
Birth: Mar. 6, 1748
Death: Oct. 14, 1818

US Congressman. A Democratic-Republican, he was elected to represent Massachusetts's 9th District in the Tenth Congress, serving from 1807 to 1809. Dean was born in Raynham, Massachusetts, where he spent most of his life engaged in milling and shipbuilding enterprises. He took little interest in politics until he was nearly 60, after which he served four terms in the State Senate (1804 to 1807) and two in the State House of Representatives (1810, 1811). Dean did not run for reelection to the US Congress in 1808, and eventually retired in Raynham. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
