Death: Dec. 24, 1944, Germany

First Lt. Willard John Curtiss, was born on a farm in Nez Perce Co., Idaho to John Herbert & Clara Mabel Baker Curtiss; the 2nd child and only son. He graduated Reubens H.S. 1938. He served as a bomber pilot in WWII. He had made his 25 required raids, and volunteered for an extra bombing raid when his plane was shot down over Schweinfurt, Germany. He was the last to leave the plane and was killed; awarded the Purple Heart "for Military merit and for wounds received in action resulting in his death December 24, 1944." He was first buried in Germany, then his body was exhumed & reburied in Belgium, then his remains were exhumed again and sent to Idaho where he was buried in the Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. His A.S.O. 0-811813.
At the time of his death he was engaged to be married to his high school sweetheart, Bernice ?? If anyone knows her surname, I would welcome information on her. She was a student at Reubens High School, 1938.
