He was a son of Warner and Jane Gilpin. He married Ethel Margaret Babbitt 25 Dec 1902 in Furnas Co., NE.

Burhl Gilpin, Ex Wheatland Judge, Dies
Wheatland, Yuba Co----Funeral services are pending in the Lipp and Sullivan Chapel in Marysville, Yuba County, for Burhl Gilpin, 86, who retired as judge of the Wheatland Judicial District on April 1st and died in his Wheatland home yesterday.
Found unconscious in his room by his wife, Jessie, he was taken to the Yuba County Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Heart Attack
Sheriff Coroner John R. Dower said death was due to a heart attack. Gilpin recently suffered a stroke which prompted his resignation.
A native of Kentucky, Gilpin came to Wheatland more than 30 years ago as a minister of the First Christian Church.
He left the pulpit for farming for several years and in 1945 was named judge to succeed the late Fred Beilby. Elected to the job a year later he served continuously until his retirement.
No Successor has been named.
Survivors, in addition to his wife he leaves his sons, Chester of Altadena, Los Angeles County, and Burhl Jr., of Nebraska, and a brother and two sisters, all residing outside this area.

He was born in Casey Co., Ky. to Warner Gilpin and Jane Woodrum. He was one of 10 children. He married Ethel Babbitt in 1902 in NE. God bless him.
