JOHN ARMEN DIES AT 76.
John V. Armen, 76, of 360 Elmwood Drive, died in Williamsburg Nursing Home at 2 p.m., Wednesday. He had been a patient there for 3 years. Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, at Elliotts Chapel of Memories. The Rev. James G. Glasscock, pastor of St. James Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
He was born John Varton Karanjian in Armenia, Sept. 21, 1888. He came to the United States when he was 22 years old, and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated in three years with a degree in pharmacy. He answered an advertisement from Paint Rock, Texas seeking a registered pharmacist in 1913; took the job and lived in Paint Rock for five years.
He and Elizabeth Greieserlan, who had moved from Armenia to Michigan, were married in 1914 at Dallas. They moved from Paint Rock in 1917 to Milford, Texas where he owned and operated the Armen Drug Company 50 years. He suffered a stroke in 1963 and sold his business and moved to Abilene. They had lived with a daughter, Ann, and her husband, Dr. R. Lee Rode, 883 Elmwood.
Mr. Armen was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Milford, was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Texas State Pharmacists Assoc., had served as Mayor of Milford, and was a member of the Milford Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Rode and Mrs. Kingston Chillingworth of San Antonio, and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dr. Stanton J. Barron, Dr. II. Ray Buzbee, Frank File, Charles Vickers, Bill Parsons, and Truett Davis.
