Funeral services were held March 5, 2004 at Brusie Funeral Home with Veteran's Honors to follow in the Veteran's Court of Honor at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. He passed away at Enloe Hospital. He was born in Chico to Walter S. Ballinger and Jessie P. Ballinger. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1951 at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base #128 aboard the USS Sperry (as 12) Hawaii. He was a sub tender during the Korean War.
