| Birth: | Jul. 3, 1944 | | Death: | Apr. 14, 2011 Athens Clarke County Georgia, USA |  Our classmate, Billy Ray (Tadpole)Brooks of Warne, NC entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Landmark Hospital in Athens, GA. Billy was a native of Clay County, NC and the son of the late Frank Manual and Olive Reece Brooks. Bill was retired from the NC DOT with 38 years of service, and for seven years he was working for Colwell Construction in Blairsville, GA. Bill loved hunting, fishing, and even getting up every morning ready to go to work. He really loved playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Bill held the post of Democratic Board of Elections chairman for several years. Billy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane Walker Brooks; one son, Steve Brooks and his wife, Linda of Warne, one daughter, Vicki Owens and her husband Kelly of Warne; one sister, Carvel Barnard of Warne; four grandchildren, Blake and his wife, Misty, Erin, Lindsey Rae and Kasey, and five great grandchildren, Annie, Lucus, Eli, Jasmine and Alex. Funeral services were held the morning of Friday, April 22, 2011 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Hayesville. Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiated. Billy was laid to rest in the Pine Log Baptist Church Cemetery. Servinng as pallbearers were Curtis Colwell, Luke Colwell, Danny Ledford, Steve Conley, Daryl Moore and Terry Woody. Honorary pallbearers were David Bright, Carl Auvil, Carlton Colwell, Alvin (Cider)Adams, Bob Byers and Harry Byers. A reception was held by the family the evening of April 21, 2011 for friends at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Hayesville.
