This memorial here in Excelsior, is a cenotaph, that is a monument to someone buried elsewhere. Abner's father, Eden L. (1816-1888), and Nathan (1830-1913) were brothers. Abner C. Bennett is buried with his Grandfather Isaac and Uncle Nathan and family in Clanhassen. Abner died of Typhoid fever, and may have been a contributing factor as to why he was buried only a few miles from his father's family plot; another consideration is that Abner's father had not yet obtained a family plot in Excelsior.

Abner C. Bennett was the oldest son of Eden L. and Mary L. Bennett. His siblings, according to the 1860 & 1880 census, were (birth dates are approximate) Emily bc 1845, Cynthia bc 1850, Earnest bc 1865, & Nellie bc 1870, there may have been other siblings; the first three children listed here were born NY, the last two born MN.

Abner C. Bennett, Private, Co B; Enlistment: Minniapolis, Min Aug 15, 1862 Period 3years; Residence at time of Enlistment: Hennipen County, Excelsior Post Office; Cause of death and place: Place Hutchinson, Minn; Date March 17th 63, Cause Typhoid fever.

Another abstract of record transcription is incorrect as to cause of death; it should read "Died from typhoid fever" rather than "wounds" as is the case in the next entry on the page.
