In early records and on one of the birth records of his child, he is called "Edward" or "Eddy", but apparently only used this name occasionally. He served during the Spanish American War in the 1st Maine Volunteer Army, Company G.
In 1900, he was employed as a blacksmith in the home of his future wife's family. He married Jennie Corydon Hodge on 18 Nov 1900 in Maine. Together they had nine children.
He held a number of occupations, but his primary occupation was working at the Saco-Lowell foundry as a spindler. He was also a commander in his local Spanish War Veteran's post.
He died at the Togus Veteran's Center of bronchial pnuemonia.
