Son of Roy Brown and Ernestine Hardeman Brown, GEORGE BROWN, was born in Italy, Ellis County, Texas. He is the brother of Roy Brown, Jr.

In 1943, he graduated from Oak Lawn High School in Waxahachie, Texas.

As a member of the U.S. Army, George Brown was the recipient of four Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. After returning from World War II, he furthered his education at Tillotson College in Austin, Texas.

George Brown was gainfully employed in the following industries: Waxahachie Compress, Braniff Airlines, J.C. Penny Automotive Department and in his own business-Brown & Moody's Garage located at 211 Ennis Street, Waxahachie, Texas.

He was an active community leader, participating in the Regular Fellows, Citizens for Progress, the Kiwanis Club and the NAACP.

George Brown was elected as a member of the Waxahachie City Council in 1970 and served until 2002. He was the first African-American Mayor of Waxahachie, serving in that capacity from 1980-1983. On June 30, 1998, the City of Waxahachie dedicated the plaza located at 209 N. Jackson Street in honor of George Brown. He was chosen as Waxahachie Citizen of the Year in 1999.

George and Dorothy Brown were married on January 26, 1985; he is the father of Janiece Brown
