PFC Louis F. Effley, 31, US Infantry was killed in action while fighting in Germany on March 13. A war department telegram notified his wife, Mrs. Helen Strife Effley, Shady avenue, Lowville, late Wednesday night.
PFC Effley entered the service on March 23, 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida, and Ft. George Meade, Md. He left for overseas in Sept 1944. A telegram was received by his wife on April 8 stating he was missing in action.
He was born in Lowville, May 30, 1913, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert D. Effley, Lowville. He attended Lowville academy and at the time of his induction he was employed by Henry J. Nortz.
Surviving besides his wife are two children, Jane Marie, 7, and Thomas Louis, 2, his parents, his five sisters, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ritz, Croghan.
