Susan Caroline Scoggin was the daughter
of Bird Scoggin and Mary 'Webb' Scoggin.
Her grandfather was Richard Scoggin.
The family lived in Rutherford, N.C..

Susan's father, Bird, lived and died in
Rutherford County, N. C.
After the death of Susan's father, her
mother, Mary, lived a number of years
in Whitfield Co., Georgia with Susan's
sister, Mrs. Narcissa Scoggin Smith
in McMinn County, Tennessee. It has
been recorded, Susan's mother was a
very kind and sweet lady, especially
with little children. At some point,
Mary moved to Rutherford County, where
she died at the age of 98 years old.

Susan's siblings are:

Narcissa
Bird 11
Jesse
She was the baby of the family.

On the 5th of May, 1850 Susan was
married to William Riley Long in
McMinn County, Tennessee. William
was the son of Moses Long and Rhoda
'Atchley' Long.

Susan and William had the following children:
Madison Columbus
Thomas Jefferson
Panthia Octavia
William Independence
Franklin Pierce
son, b/d at 3 months of age.
Mary L.
Eliza Jane
Flora Hattie
Emma Marie

William and Susan moved to Arkansas
after his mother's death in 1857.
He bought a home in Independence
County, a few miles south of Batesville.
NOTE: In 1935 the house was still there
but wasn't being lived in.
They were living here at the beginning of
the Civil War. William enlisted as a private
in Captain B.B. Owen's Co., 1, First Regiment,
Arkansas Volunteers in the Confederate.

In 1875, William moved his family to a farm
located about a mile from Elmo. They lived on
this farm for sometime, later sold it and moved
down the road and bought another farm
where he lived out his life. William is buried in
the Maple Springs Cemetery. William's grave
was marked with a large field stone. He is
buried next to their son, Thomas Jefferson
Long.
Thomas bought the old home place after his
father died and named the farm, "Pleasant Valley
Hay Farm".

Susan moved at some point to Jamestown, in
Independence County, Arkansas. Jamestown is
where she was living at the time of her death.
Susan and William were members of the Baptist
Church.
