Residents of Crockett, Contra Costa County, CA., Loma and Joseph Oswald were electrocuted when Joe was working with a long pipe at the well on the farm they were developing in Lakeport, Lake County, CA. Joe collapsed when the pipe hit a power line. Loma rushed to him not knowing what happened and was electrocuted as well. Their four young children witnessed the horrible incident. Neighbors, hearing the children screams, rushed in to help. The children subsequently were raised in the I.O.O.F Orphan's Home in Gilroy, CA. (Estd: 1896). Rosalie and Walter were employed there in the 1940 census.
