Married Aug. 6, 1761 at West Greenwich, RI to Sarah Aylesworth, daughter of Robert Jr. and Susannah Reynolds Aylesworth. Called Yeoman, a man holding and cultivating a small landed estate; a freeholder. In the 1790 W. Greenwich, RI census, Ellis has in his household, 3 M over 16, 3 M under 16 and 3 females. In 1800-1803 he was in the tax rolls for NY at Hebron, Washington Co,NY, also was taxed for property at Granville in 1803. The 1810 Hebron census lists he and his wife alone in the household. Known children were Huldah, Abel, Edward & Amos, all of whom came to the Washington Co.-Warren Co., NY area.

He most likely died the beginning of Feb 1813 , inventory taken 21 Feb 1813, Administrators were chosen on 22 Feb 1813 Lyman Hall and Deborah Austin. Inventory filed 30 July 1813, Supplement to Inventory filed on 8 Dec 1813.
