Duane Edward Poland, Sr. age 87 of Brighton died December 16, 2009 in the loving care of his family. He was born to parents George Arthur Poland and Lois Lillian Pierce.
In 1986, Duane retired as the elevator mechanic from the University of Michigan. Duane served his country bravely in the 82nd Airborne, 325th Glider Infantry, Company L, WWII October 1940-September 1945; he was a very proud and highly decorated veteran and an active member at the Brighton VFW Post #4357 and the American Legion.
Duane is preceded in death by his granddaughter Tammy Bough (d. 2007), and brother Geordie Poland.
Duane is survived by his loving children Duane (Teresa) Poland, Jr., Nancy (Edward) Lobdell, Lois Poland, Tim Poland, Sharon (the late Herb Wright) LaPorte, Thomas (Viktoriya) Poland, Theresa Poland; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Betty (the late Thurlow) Rayment, Suzanne, Joyce, Nina, and Jim; also many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
