Funeral services for Miss Mary E. Annis were held Thursday afternoon at the Brown Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Thos. P. Shaffer. Burial was made in the family lot in Oakland cemetery.
Miss Annis, who taught in Prairie township schools for 34 years, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 1941, at her home on East Union street after an illness of over a year.
Miss Annis a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John D. Annis, was born in Prairie township, Oct. 28, 1876, received her early education in the rural schools, attended the local schools and prepared herself for the profession of a teacher in 1933 she and her sister, Miss Grace Annis, came to Manchester, which has since been their home.
Early in life Miss Annis united with the Methodist church of Sand Creek and was a faithful worker in the church and its organizations.
Surviving Miss Annis are the sister named of this city, one brother Ed Annis of Prairie township, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harry H. Annis who died Sept. 2, 1923.
Miss Annis was one of the most widely known teachers in the county, and many old time friends will learn of her death with genuine sorrow. These friends sympathize with the sister and brother in their sorrow.
