Death of J. W. Sims

In the death of J. W. Sims, which occurred at his home 5 miles north of Davis Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Murray county loses one of its best and truest citizens. He was 72 years of age. Old age, coupled with an abcess on his lungs, was responsible for his demise.

Mr. Sims was born in Alabama, lived in Tennessee awhile and came to this country some 12 or 15 years ago. He was well known and well liked, and held in high esteem by every one who knew him. He is survived by a wife, five sons and six daughters, all grown and most of them married. He has two sons in service, McKinley Sims having been at Camp Travis for quite awhile and now supposed to be in France; and Clay Sims, a member of the engineering corps at Camp Bowie.

The body was brought to Davis for burial, the service being conducted by Rev. E. T. Smith of Iona.

Mother: Martha Evaline (Morris) Sims
1st marriage was to Emma Baughn in 1872, but sadly only for 3 years until her death in 1875.
