Ollie was the 6th of the 7 children of William Melvin Cox (1857-1925) and Mary Ammert Sharp (1856-1916). Both William and Mary and their 1st 4 children were born in Tennessee. In the late 1880s the family left Tennessee and Ollie was born somewhere in Missouri on their 4 or 5 year trek to Texas.

On November 14, 1914 Ollie married Oma Green at Benjamin,Knox, TX and they had 8 children, only 5 whom survived childhood. Ollie was a farmer but never owned his own land; he either rented or share-cropped.

Ollie spent 6 months in the Tuberculosis Sanitarium, then died of a heart attack soon after returning home.
