James was a very talented man, always finding success along the way. He started working at an early age. His jobs in his lifetime were numerous. He was a bus driver for TNM&O, he built cabinets with his uncle Donis Austin, and he worked with his father Russell Austin at Austin Sporting Goods. His uncle and father gave him courage to start his own business American Coverup and Fiberglass in 1985. His business is still well known to this day. His hard work and dedication to his business allowed him to have many adventures in his life. He valued his time with his family, traveling in bus, van, Winnebago and truck. He loved NASCAR and spent many years traveling with his son and racing IMCA Modifieds. James spent the last few years ranching, raising horses and cattle. He had a love of all animals, including his dog Bandit who preceded him in death. No matter where James was living, he always made it to family gatherings and his grandchildren's events. He loved music and dancing. James was always good at whatever he decided to do, never scared to try to make dreams a reality. Just this year, he bought land in the mountains and was in the middle of building his dream home for him and Nelda.
His legacy will live on by all the stories his friends and family have to share. He himself was a great story teller and could be heard across the room when he laughed. A good friend said, "You never knew if James was giving you a hard time or if he was being serious until his body started giggling and then came contagious smile. He was like a second dad to many. He taught many of us how to be a father." James will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
