The first child and only daughter of novelist Anne Rice and poet/painter Stan Rice. Born with her father's blonde hair and her mother's brown eyes, she was a very bright and vivacious person whom family and friends adored. Her health was considered as normal as that of any other child until late one summer afternoon in 1970 when she came home early from playing with her friends and told her mother that she was "too tired to play." Knowing that something was wrong, but hoping it was just a typical childhood sickness, her mother took her to the doctor who sensed something more malignant was occurring. Blood tests were administered and she was checked into Stanford Children's Hospital in Berkeley, California. The results revealed that she possessed acute granuleucytic leukemia, a strain of the disease in which the chances of survival were next to none. The following two years were filled with a blurred series of hospital stays during which the leukemia rapidly spread despite chemotherapy treatments. A little before her 6th birthday, she passed away.
