George K. "Bud" "Hank" Herndon, 75, of West Liberty, and formerly of Woodsfield, passed away at his residence at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012.

He was born in Woodsfield on Sept. 13, 1936, to the late Hugh and Thelma Hill Herndon. He also was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dan Ischy.

On Feb. 4, 1959, he married the former Patricia Mellott, and they marked 53 years of marriage Saturday. His wife survives, along with two daughters, Kathy (Mark) Bryan of Gahanna and Karen (Mike) Hickenbottom of West Liberty; a son, Kenneth (Tawnya) Herndon of Woodsfield; four grandchildren, Haleigh Hickenbottom, Ross Hickenbottom, Zac Bryan and Collin Bryan; two sisters, Barbara (Wilbur) Jeffers and Sara (Paul) Kraft, both of Woodsfield; an "adopted son," Jacob Vitt of West Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired from Ormet Aluminum Corporation in Hannibal and most recently worked with Logan Lawn & Landscaping in West Liberty.

Bud enjoyed hunting, woodworking and collecting knives. He was a member of the National Pike Knife Club, Kingscreek United Methodist Church and West Liberty Lions Club and was a former Green Township Trustee.

He loved spending quality time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. His kind nature allowed him to immediately connect with people, thus he never met a stranger.

Pastor Dave Brown officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home, West Liberty, where visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Following services, his body will be cremated.
