Mrs. Anton Petersen passed away Monday. She had been a resident of this county for over forty years.
Anna Dorthea Petersen, nee Smith, was born December 14, 1859 in the province of Schleswig, Denmark. About twenty years later, she immigrated to this country to join her husband Anton Petersen, who had preceded her a short while before. The first year they lived in Audubon, but soon moved to a farm in Audubon township where they have lived some forty years in happy wedlock tilling the soil and rearing a family of eleven children. The deceased leaves to mourn her loss the husband and ten children, one daughter having died seven years ago. The children are Mrs. Christina Nelson of Anita; Mrs. Mary Salmonsen of Alder, Montana; Peter; Hans; Andrew and Arthur, all of Anita; Mrs. Annie Josephsen of Orient; Mrs. Martha Josephsen of Murray; Mrs. Lena Jensen of Anita and Anton at home. Also two adopted grandchildren, Willie and Annie Nelson are at home. She also leaves two brothers, Peter Smith of Stanton, Michigan and Christian Smith of Kankakee, Illinois and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Schafer of Kankakee, Illinois.
To all, the departure of the old mother is a great loss as she was a constant inspiration to virtue and the ways of God to them. Although her lingering illness for the past fifteen or sixteen years sapped her vitality and made her an invalid in their loving care. Now she is gone we hope to her heavenly home and beckons them to follow. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in which she remained throughout her long life. Death came peacefully to her on February 9, 1925. A host of relatives and friends join the aged and weak husband and his bereaved children in their mourning and our heartfelt condolences expressed to all. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Pc Jensen at the home at 11 o'clock Thursday morning and at the Lutheran church in Exira at 1:30 p.m. Interment was made at the Exira Cemetery -Audubon County Journal, February 12, 1925
