Henry Maddux (Maddoux), who was shot on Tuesday, November 18th, 1905 in the melee in William's saloon at Sayre, in which Walter Shehan was killed, died at the Hotel Black at Cheyenne on Tuesday night last. It will be remembered that Maddux was shot in the left hand, mangling that member in a horrible manner. A few shot also struck him in the face and neck. Immediately after the shooting he was arrested as an accessory in the killing of Shehan and brought to Cheyenne. His condition wassuch that he was placed in jail, but was kept under guard at the hotel. An operation was deemed necessary and on Friday last the physicians decided to amputate the larger part of the injured hand, which was done. Complications set in and it was found necessary Sunday night to remove the arm between the shoulder and the elbow joint. He rallie the operation in good shape and it was thought all; danger was passed. Tuesday evening he began to sink rapidly and died during the night. The redmains were taken to his home near Berlin Wednesday for interment. This is the second death from this shooting scrape, Walter Shehan dying about an hour after the shooting. G.E. Vance who did the shooting is in jail at this place.

Henry Maddoux died from blood poison caused by a gunshot wound he received in a saloon fight which was reported in our last weeks issue. His arm was amputated last Sunday at Cheyenne. It was thought that he was in a fair way to recover, until blood poison set in, after which his physicians could do nothing to save his life. His body was brought to Sayre Wednesday and will be buried in the Doxey cemetery this afternoon. We are informed he had $3,000 life insurance in the Mutual Life of New York. Henry Maddoux died Tuesday night at Cheyenne from blood poisoning as a result of the gun-shot wound received at the hands of Elmer Vance here a week before. He had been taken to Cheyenne under arrest for complicity in the killing of Walter Shehan. The injury was in his right hand, and one finger had been amputated here the evening the shooting occurred. Soon after he was taken to Cheyenne the wound began to show signs of blood poisoning, and another finger was taken off. This did not check it, and his arm was taken off below the shoulder, in an attempt to save his life. It was of no avail, however, and he died Tuesday night. Henry Maddoux was about 40 years old, and lived on a farm 4 miles from Sayre. He leaves a wife and several children. He had taken out a policy for $3000 a few months ago in the New York Life . *********************************
