Lucy Jargowsky, nee La Rosa, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Sea Isle City. Lucy was a life-long resident of Sea Isle City. She was born on May 7, 1921 to Pasquale and Giovanna LaRosa, one of eight children. She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1940. Lucy married Bernard "Jiggs" Jargowsky on December 8, 1945. Lucy was beloved in her community and always had "room for one more" around her table. Her Sicilian feasts were renowned. No one who sat around her table will ever forget the experience. She made everyone feel welcome and she had a special gift with children, on whom she showered much love and affection.

Lucy was a member of St. Joseph's parish and attended daily mass for decades, in good weather and bad. She was an Extraordinary Minister of the church, and delivered Holy Communion to the sick and elderly of the parish until her final days. She sang in the Church Choir and was a founding member of the Catholic Daughters. She often referred toSt Joseph's Parish as her ‘second family.'

Lucy volunteered with numerous organizations over the years. She helped her husband Jiggs found the Sea Isle City Ambulance Corps, and was active at various times with organizations including Questers, Candlelighters, Garden Club, and The Victorian Society. More recently, her volunteer work included the Most Holy Redeemers (over 20 years of service) and the Sea Isle City Historical Museum, where many family artifacts are on display, including her wedding dress.

Lucy had a flair for the dramatic, and appeared in amateur shows with the Candle lighters to raise money for St. Joseph's Catholic School. Lucy wrote and performed songs for every occasion. In the 1990s, she was active with the Sea Isle Players, and appeared in productions of Hello Dolly, the Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Sister Act, Annie Get Your Gun, and many others.

Lucy remained remarkably active into her nineties, gardening, playing cards, and doing volunteer work even at 91. She created and maintained an extraordinary Victorian garden around her house and porch, which includes numerous statues of Saints, angels, cherubs, and lions, as well as a gazebo and a lighthouse. She loved spending time in the yard and on her porch. In 1999, she was named Sea Isle City's "Sweetheart of the Year".

Lucy is survived by her brother Roger, her children Peter Jargowsky, Christina Desai, Patricia Repici, Paul Jargowsky, Michael Jargowsky, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. One of her children, Rose Mary, died in infancy and was her "angel in heaven."

Donations in Lucy's memory can be made the St. Joseph's Church Building Fund or the Holy Redeemers Visiting Nurse Agency. The viewing will be on Friday, September 28th, at 8:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 43rd andLandis Avenue,Sea Isle City, NJ followed by a funeral mass at 10:00am.
