He was the grandson of James Truell, possible War of 1812 Vet (~1790-aft 1850), of Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
In 1850, he is with his mother Adeline and sisters, Elizabeth and Ann in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. In 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900, he is not yet found in the census. In 1910, he is listed as an uncle the home of A. Judson Edenton in Berkeley, Spotsylvania County, Virginia. He was a house carpenter. The Margaret L. Hall who is listed as A.
