Mrs. Mary Bockes
Mrs. Mary (Kiefer) Bockes, 94, of 1171 Miller Road died at 7:15 a.m. Friday in Lady of Lourdes Convalescent Home.
She was the widow of Jacob C. Bockes, who died in 1954.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille's Church with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at the Didesch Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Bockes was born in Luxembourg, Europe, and before retiring, Mrs. Bockes and her husband owned and operated a nursery and landscaping business that had been started by the Bockes family 82 years ago. They were among the first florists to operate a flower and vegetable stand at the Dubuque Market Place.
Mrs. Bockes was a member of St. Columbkille's Rosary Society and the Sacred Heart League.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Hildegarde) Brown of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Walter (Luetta) Ehlers of Rock Island, Ill., and Matilda (Tillie) Bockes at home; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. George (Leona) Fitzgibbons of Dubuque.
