Born the middle child of 5 to James Angell McLaughlin/MacLachlan and Mary Jane Carrier in Cambridge, MA in 1935. He graduated from West Newton H.S. He got a BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Chicago. The father of 3 and grandfather of 2 at the time of his death. He left a teaching position at Southern Illinois University to go Long-term Active Duty in the Army. His posts included the Army Personel Records Center, St. Louis, ARPERCEN, Alexandria, VA, and Ft. Knox, KY.
He was diagnosed with Early Onset Altzheimers Disease in 1995.
