In 1910 Jessie married Samuel Bowman in Coldwater, Kansas. They resided near Riverside in Ness County. To their union were born 9 children. Four died in as young children. This marriage ended in divorce. Sam kept the oldest boy. Jesse took the next 3. She was expecting another. That child was given in adoption at birth. Two of the remaining children were also given to foster parents. In 1927 she married James Behler. They raised the remaining daughter.
At the time of Jesse's death they were residing
Wellsville, KS. She died in the Ransom Hospital.
She was buried in the Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
Her survivors were: James Behler, her husband; sons Ivan "Bill" Bowman, California, Merle Bowman, Coldwater, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs Fern Harlan, Iowa, Mrs Nina Goddard, Liberal, Kansas; nine grandchildren; one sister Mrs Gladys Sickler, Coldwater, Kansas; and one brother, Asa Hoofer, Coldwater, Kansas. No mention is made in her documents of the child given away at birth.
Those early days were filled with hardships we can only imagine today.

Mrs Jessie Blanche Behler, daughter of Frank and Ada (Smith) Hoofer was born on November 24, 1888 at Osage City, Kansas, and passed away in the Ransom hospital at Ottawa, Kansas, following a heart attack on Saturday, January 28, 1961, at the age of 72 years, two months and four days.
She was united in marriage to James Behler on August 6, 1927.
She is survived by her husband, two sons and two daughters by a former marriage; Ivan Bowman, Indio, California, Merle Bowman, Coldwater; Nina Goddard, Liberal, Kansas; Fern Harlan, Whiting, Iowa; one brother, Asa Hoofer, Coldwater; two sisters: Gladys Sickler, Coldwater; and Hazel Ray, Baldwin Park, Calif; 13 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs Behler was preceded in death by four children and one brother.
She is a former resident of Coldwater, Wilmore, and Woodward, Oklahoma.
Funeral services were held in Mount Hope Baptist church east of Ottawa, at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 1961. Rev R B Shoemaker officiated.
Interment was in the Highland Cemetery near Ottawa, Kansas.
