Irving Philip Shavelson, known as Shavey to his family, was the son of Hyman Shavelson and Esther Goldstein.

He married Roslyn 'Ros' Shavelson on Jun 2, 1946 in New York City, New York Co, New York.

Uncle Shavey was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1942 to 1945. He saw active duty in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and England and was awarded 4 battle stars. He was an interpreter for his unit while in Germany and aided in finding locations.

He died at his home in Coconut Grove, Florida.
