WALTHAM POLICE CAPTAIN

Watch Factory to Police Force

My father, Edward A. Cloonan, was a police lieutenant when I was born. First he worked in the Watch Factory, everybody did that then. He played on the old Waltham Jewels baseball team. The Watch Factory's baseball teams used to play on Saturday afternoons. Well, my parents were marred in 1915 and he had been on the force for years. He was a captain when he retired. He worked with Hardigan, Connaughton, Doyle and Edmunds, Coleman, Duffy and Connelly.
When he was married he was a sergeant and he was out in the streets, mostly in the downtown area, Main and Moody Streets and so forth. They had a beat down the Bleachery and a beat down the West End and in the lower end.- Edward A. Cloonan, Jr
