Ellen L. Bullen, 83, McGrath, died December 28, 2002, at the Kanabec County Hospital in Mora as the result of an accident.
She was born February 12, 1919, in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Swan and Eltie Larson. At the age of 9, the family moved to McGrath. She graduated from McGrath High School as salutatorian in 1936. She went on to Teachers' Training in Mora. She married Herbert Bullen on August 14, 1938. She taught in Ford Township for one year and then was a substitute teacher in McGrath for many years. She was very active in the McGrath community all her life. She was a charter member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, ordained elder on January 31, 1988. She was a member of the ladies' aid for 64 years--holding all offices. She taught Sunday School from 1940-1964 and then again from 1978-1981. She was active and held offices in the McGrath Senior Citizens Organization since inception.
Services were held January 2 at the Calvary Presbyterian Church in McGrath with Rev. Keith Davis officiating. Music was provided by David Waite and Elaine Elg. Pallbearers were Larry Bullen, Jerry Kohlgraf, Steve Person, Charles Werhan, Michael Werhan and Kevin Werhan. Burial was in the Pliny Cemetery in McGrath.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. (names removed)
She was preceded in death by her parents, Swan and Eltie Larson; husband, Herbert; brother, Kenneth Larson; and infant daughter, Betty.
