|Death: ||Apr. 13, 1917|
April 26, 1917
Alberta Ophelia Whitley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Knapp was born near Primrose in Lee County, Iowa, April 13, 1860, and died at her home two miles south of town April 18, 1917. Her age at the time of her death was 57 years and 5 days.
She moved with her parents to Wayne County, Iowa, March, 1876, where she continuously resided until the time of her death. The deceased was educated in Allerton school and taught for a number of years in the public schools of this county.
In 1880 she professed faith in Christ and united with the Allerton Baptist church of which she was a member at the time of her death. During the last six years she was not permitted to be active in church work because of conditions over which she had no control, but her faith grew stronger and her hope brighter until the end.
On April 15, 1885, she was united in marriage to J. W. Whitley. To this union one son was given, Pearl D., who with the father and medical skill did everything that could be done to relieve her.
She was a patient sufferer during the past nine months. Before her health began to fail she gave much of her time in helping the sick of her community. She was a quiet unassuming woman, thinking first of others.
Those who have preceded her to the great beyond are the father, who passed away twenty-three years ago, one sister, Denia, who died in infancy, and her mother who died March 23, 1917. Those who survive to mourn their loss of a faithful wife, mother and sister are the husband, and the son who resides at the parental home, two brother and two sisters as follows; W. D. Knapp of Harwood, Mo., B.S. Knapp of Las Animas, Colo., Mrs. Fred Jenkins of Sawtell, Cal., and Mrs. H. G. Sprow of Allerton.
Truly can it be said of her that the world has been made better by her precept and example. Then say not good-bye but in some brighter clime bid her Good Morning.
