Frank Knoll was born in Secor, Illinois, July 2, 1891 to parents Christian and Julia Thurner Knoll. In 1910 and 1920, he was living in Palestine, Illinois with his parents and siblings. June 5, 1917 he completed a WW I draft card stating he was a farm hand for John Walsh, in Chatsworth, ILL and subsequently served in the U.S. Army. On February 21, 1918 he married Emma Bruns in Charlotte. In October 1919, Frank and Emma had a son, Herbert. On the 1920 census, Frank was listed as renting a farm in Palestine. By 1930, he and Emma had moved to a farm in Charlotte. By 1940 Frank and Emma owned their own farm in Charlotte and Herbert, 20, was working in the lumber yard. In April 1942, Frank registered for the WW II draft. In 1969 his son, Herbert, married. In April 1974, his wife, Emma, died in Piper City. Frank died May 31, 1975. He was buried in Chatsworth cemetery on June 2. According to his obituary, he was survived by his son Herbert, a brother Earl, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers, and four sisters.
