JD drowned in the Cowhouse Creek at Belton, Texas. He was on a fishing trip with his older brother Ellis Bishop, when he fell into the creek and was pulled down and away by the water under current. Divers found his body the next morning at the bottom of the creek 2 miles away. (Per his sister Betty Rose Brown)
