Michael John Krakovski, Sr. of Hillsborough, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92 on Monday, May 21, 2012. Born on March 26th, 1920 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania he was the last survivor of eight brothers and sisters. As a youth in Pennsylvania, Michael worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp to serve in World War II. He held a post on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. WASP in the South Pacific theatre. After surviving the sinking of the WASP by a Japanese submarine he returned stateside to serve out the remainder of the War as a Gunnery Sergeant. Michael worked for many years in construction as a carpenter and upon being hired at Rutgers University he relocated his family to New Brunswick, New Jersey. As the family grew he made one last move to his current home in Hillsborough, New Jersey in 1961. Within a few years he was offered a State employee position at the University as the Supervisor of the Physical Plant and remained in that roll until his retirement in 1996. He spent his retirement years enjoying his home and family. Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9:15am in the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US Hwy 206, Hillsborough followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial in Mary Mother of God Church, 157 S. Triangle Rd., Hillsborough. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. Visiting will be Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 in the funeral home.
