Anchor Point resident, Justin K. "J.T." Tennison, 33, died Feb. 22, 2011 in Homer.
Tennison was born March 27, 1977, in Stillwater, Okla., to Preston and Nancy Nichols Jobe. In April of 1983 he came to Anchor Point with his mother and little sister, Kayla. There his mother passed away one week later of cancer. His grandparents Mike and Linda Tennison adopted Justin and Kayla and raised them in the Anchor Point and Homer area.
He worked many different jobs after high school, but his first love was fishing. Tennison left Alaska several times throughout his adult life to pursue different fields of work. He worked in Washington state, tried the oil field of Oklahoma and tried his hand at being a cowboy in Texas with his birth father, but he always came home to Alaska. His dream was to work on a large fishing vessel, which was fulfilled two years ago when he got on the F/V Time Bandit.
Tennison is survived by his daughter, Dakota Tennison; son, Carter Tennison; sister, Kayla Tennison; grandparents, Mike and Linda Tennison; father, Preston Jobe; niece, Kristina Woolsey; nephew, Codey Woolsey; and many other family in Alaska, Oklahoma and Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Nichols Jobe, in 1983, and first cousin and best friend, Jeramy Russell, in 1992.
His grandmother wrote: "He loved life and lived it as he said it. He always wanted to be famous and accomplished this by working for the Hillstrand Brothers on the F/V Time Bandit. I will miss him greatly."
His sister Kayla wrote: "Justin was my best friend, my hero and my big brother. He loved life, his children, his family and friends. He had a huge heart and a contagious laugh and smile. I will miss my big brother so much. No one could ever replace him."
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. March 6, at the Chapman School in Anchor Point. The Rev. Phil Reemtsma from Calvary Baptist Church in Kenai and the Rev. Jim Handing from Anchor Point Baptist Church will be officiating. Justin's ashes will be scattered this spring in the fish grounds of the great Alaska waters.
Funeral arrangements by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
