Joseph Early Adams resided in Meriwether County, Georgia. He enlisted, age 21, in the Confederate States Army on 18 May 1861 in Meriwether County, Georgia. He was mustered on 30 May 1861 at Howard Grove near Richmond, Virginia as a 3rd Corporal in Company D, 8th Georgia Infantry. He was surrendered on 09 April 1865 at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.

Joseph married Eliza A. Gresham on 28 April 1870 in Meriwether County, Georgia. From this union they had three known children according to the 1880 & 1900 census: Carrie B. born abt Nov.1873, Arthur born abt Aug.1876, and Benjamin Franklin "Frank" born abt June 1878.

Buried on 6 June 1938.
