MOTHER OF THE PADGETT'S DIES FROM CANCER OF THE THROAT.

PAST SEVENTY YEARS OF AGE

Death Breaks the Long Married Life of William B Padgett and Minerva J. Padgett.

The long and happy married life of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Padgett was broken today by the death of the wife, after a long illness. Death did not come unexpected to all to the well known woman. She had been a sufferer from cancer of the throat for months and during the last two or three weeks had been in a critical condition, her death being expected any day. Last Saturday she improved slightly, but the change was only temporary. Death came at 10 O'clock this morning, members of the family being at the bedside.

Mrs. Padgett was the mother of the local attorneys of that name and was well known throughout the county. She was of an active and viral nature, strong in mind and body, and possessed keen wit - characteristics shown to advantage in her two sons who are leading attorneys at the local bar. She had spent nearly all her life in this and Martin counties and was widely known. With her husband she had lived at the Padgett homestead on the Bedford road for years.

Mrs. Padgett was the daughter of William Seals and was born in Hardin county, Kentucky, in January 1827. She came with her parents and family to Daviess county when a girl and settled in Van Buren township. Her father was a prominent farmer of that township during his life, serving as county commissioner at one time. To her union with Mr. Padgett, twelve children were born five of whom are living. They are Charles W. Padgett, proprietor of the Grand Hotel at Vincennes: Arnold J. Padgett and Alvin Padgett, attorneys of this city; Mrs. Frank Love and Mrs. A.J. Cunningham..

Funeral services will be held at St. Simon's church, of which Mrs. Padgett was an ardent member, at 9 'clock Friday morning. Burial at St. John's cemetery.
