REST IN PEACE..
After a long illness, Mrs. Grace Pfile Bowles peacefully passed away in her sleep early December 8th at Decatur General Hospital.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of Wesley Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, Okla. Her father participated on the founding board of that church.
Born Oct. 17, 1913, in Waureka, Okla., of Charles and Millie Tedrow Pfile. She is survived by her son, Thomas Andrew Bowles III of Courtland, and his daughter, Lillian Goldthwaite Bowles of London, England. She has many relatives in Kansas and friends through her Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Studying Art and Home Economics, she attended both the University of Oklahoma and The University of Alabama where she met her husband of 16 years, Thomas A. Bowles Jr., now deceased, of Decatur. In her later years, she resided with her son at his farm near Courtland. Her life was made pleasant by the loving attention of the many friends and sitters who assisted her. Chief among them, Bertha Garner.
The services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with the Rev. Dr. Terry Greer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The burial will be for close family and friends the Bowles Family Cemetery near Courtland.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in the memory of Grace Bowles at the Mount Zion Baptist Church on Co. Rd. 270, Town Creek.
Grace will be remembered for her fresh outward beauty and inward beauty of soul. Her aesthetic sensibility and wry humor bCENTERened the day for everyone she met. Her frugality was legendary and her faith was private and enduring. In spite of great physical difficulties, she always met them with a shining smile. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
