Mount Union, Pa., Nov. 1. – Miles Appleby, a highly respected citizen of Newton Hamilton for many years, died at his latehome on Sunday after an illness of several months. While his health had been failing rapidly he was confined to bed but a little more than a day when death relieved his suffering. Born at Shade Gap, Miles Appleby was the son of John Doris and Rachel Bennet (Harper) Appleby. He was united in marriage with Orpha Hughes. He lived at Shade Gap for many years before living in Newton Hamilton. Mr. Appleby was a devout Christian man, an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and faithful in the performance of all his Christian duties. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, having membership in Lewistown. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from his late residence at 1:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. France of the Presbyterian Church of Newton Hamilton and interment was made in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Shade Gap.
