I would like to offer a few thoughts about the site of Pleasant Bynum. Don't know where this information is coming from - but, I can guess!

I was surprised to find Pleasant in FAG.

1. I speculated 35 years ago that he was born in White County, TN but there has never been any evidence to that fact. The family was told by his wife, Rachel Ann Phillips, that she was born near Nashville but Pleasant was long dead before this was written down.

2. Researchers have been speculating for years on where he was buried. I always thought he was probably buried where he died - on their farm in Newton County. I do recall a long time ago that one of his grandchildren did suggest that he was buried in the Witter Cemetery near "where his father was buried". It seemed illogical to me that they would have hauled his body all those miles while there was a war going on, just to bury him in Madison County. I was unaware that anyone actually found a grave site for him. Sure would like to see a photo of that grave site.

3. His mother was likely Betsy Beale but we have no evidence of that. We only know that John and Betsy were married in NC in 1809. That was the last mention of Betsy by name. When John was enumerated in Arkansas in 1850, his wife's name was Elizabeth _____.

4. Pleasant and Rachel only had 5 known children. James Monroe Binam 17 Aug 1851, Nancy Jane Binam 4 Feb 1854, Margaret E. Binam, Isaac R. Bynum 23 Jul 1860, and Jasper B. Binam 20 Nov 1862. There was no Lottie Bynum/Binam.

Hate to be picky about all this but this website will be around long after I'm gone and I'd really like for it to be correct.

Gary Binam

PS. Pleasant was my great, great grandfather.
