San Francisco Police Officer. Born in San Francisco, Nick-Tomasito Birco joined the United States Marine Corps in 1988 and was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Joining the San Francisco Police Department in 2001, Officer Nick-Tomasito Birco was assigned to the Bayview District Station. At about one in the morning on July 26, Officer Birco was responded to a vehicle pursuit and attempted to lay down spike strips when the van driven by the suspects collided into the back of his police cruiser. Officer Birco was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after at the age of 39.
